Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has made it clear that there is absolutely no truth to stories about Chelsea losing patience with young Belgian midfielder Romeo Lavia amid his ongoing fitness problems.
Lavia has struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge so far, despite looking like a hugely promising signing when he made the move from Southampton to Chelsea just over a year ago.
Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, Romano made it clear that he’s not currently hearing anything about Lavia’s Blues future being uncertain.
Romano seems confident that the Chelsea board and staff are still fully backing the 20-year-old, who could still have a big future at the highest level if he can stay fit and get a run of games going soon.
Lavia transfer rumours are NOT true, insists Romano
It’s normal to have speculation about players at big clubs like Chelsea, but Romano is one of the most reliable journalists in the business and he’s adamant that any stories claiming Lavia could already be shown the door by the west London giants are not accurate.
“Sticking with Chelsea, the stories in the press about Romeo Lavia are absolutely not true. Chelsea are very happy with his talent and skills,” Romano said.
“Of course he’s been unlucky with injuries but Chelsea are supporting Romeo, waiting for him, trusting his talent.
“Spreading negative stories with zero confirmation of that is not the best for the boy, there’s nothing in these stories at all.”
Lavia is one of a number of CFC players to have issues with injuries in recent times, with Reece James also missing a lot of games this season and last, while Christopher Nkunku has also had his problems staying fit since joining the club.
Chelsea fans will hope this can be resolved within the club as it perhaps points to something going wrong with the fitness coaches or certain aspects of the players’ training regime.
