The beloved maker of jams and preserves is taking it up a notch.
Updated September 24, 2024
There are a few preserves that I make every single year. In spring, I boil up a batch of apricot jam. In summer, I cook peaches or plums down into an irresistibly thick spread. In the fall, I stew apples into apple butter.
Sometimes, though, I just need some strawberry jam or raspberry preserves for PB&Js or jam bars, in which case I turn to my local supermarket. Most jams are stodgy and gelatinous or strangely lacking in flavor. However, I know I can rely on Bonne Maman for super flavorful preserves.
I always swoon over the brand’s red, red raspberry preserves, and its wild blueberry preserves are out-of-this-world good. Bonne Maman also has a line of fruit spreads made with less sugar, and all are worthy of the best sourdough bread and fancy butter, though frankly, they’re good enough to eat by the spoonful.
Bonne Maman’s latest release—a peanut chocolate spread—lives up to the high standards I have for the brand’s product line, and I’ve been spooning it on everything from bananas to ice cream since it arrived on my doorstep.
Following on the heels of Bonne Maman’s hazelnut chocolate spread, released last year, the peanut chocolate spread is super smooth. Thanks to Dutch process cocoa powder, it has a deep, distinct chocolate flavor bolstered by the rich and complex taste of roasted peanuts.
Ingredient-wise, this is a great choice for folks who love the famous hazelnut chocolate spread but who don’t love that it contains palm oil. The Bonne Maman spread uses sunflower oil and cocoa butter for a silky consistency that’s thick enough to spread on bread but just thin enough to drizzle without being runny.
The peanut chocolate spread will be available as soon as September 24 on the Bonne Maman website and at select nationwide retailers, including Albertsons, Safeway, and Gelson’s for $6.99 for a 12.3-ounce jar.
