Arsenal and Newcastle United remain interested in Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane and could move for him as he nears the end of his contract at the Allianz Arena.
CaughtOffside understands Sane is not happy with Bayern trying to offer him a new deal with a lower salary, and this could lead to the Germany international leaning increasingly towards leaving his current club.
Sources have told CaughtOffside that Arsenal and Newcastle are looking closely at Sane due to his potential availability soon, with both clubs in need of more attacking options in the near future.
Eddie Howe is understood to be a big fan of Sane, while there is a recognition that the Magpies could do with bolstering their options in that area of the pitch after parting ways with Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh this summer.
Arsenal, meanwhile, looked at Sane in the summer before turning their attention to the more low-cost option of signing Raheem Sterling on loan from Chelsea.
Sane transfer won’t come cheap despite contract situation
Although Bayern are facing the prospect of losing Sane on a free, sources have indicated it would still take offers of around €40-50m to persuade the Bavarian giants to sell the 28-year-old.
This is considered too high by the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle, who are understood to be considering making offers in the region of €30m to test Bayern’s resolve over the player.
It remains to be seen precisely how this will pan out as Bayern still ultimately hope to be able to keep Sane on lower wages, but it doesn’t currently look like the former Manchester City man will accept those terms.
If Arsenal don’t keep Sterling beyond his loan, a signing like Sane coming in could be a smart move to ensure Mikel Arteta still has quality options in his attack for the near future.
