Liverpool are eyeing up three Bayer Leverkusen players as potential transfer targets, with the Reds among the clubs keeping tabs on Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Exequiel Palacios.
Sources with a close understanding of the situation have informed CaughtOffside of Liverpool’s strengthening interest in Wirtz, who is understood to be open to a move to the Premier League despite also attracting interest from European giants Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
Wirtz is likely to command a fee in the region of €100m if he does leave Leverkusen, which is more likely next summer than it was at any point this year, when the Bundesliga champions had a firm stance that the 21-year-old was absolutely not for sale.
CaughtOffside understands the situation is likely to change in summer 2025, with Leverkusen realistic about their hopes of keeping Wirtz amid so much interest from Europe’s elite, with Liverpool also expected to be willing to pay the €100m required to land the Germany international.
Wirtz transfer: Liverpool also eyeing his Leverkusen teammates
Wirtz is likely to be one of Liverpool’s top targets as a marquee signing in attack could be required due to doubts over Mohamed Salah’s future as he nears the end of his contract, but he’s not the only Leverkusen star on their radar.
Dutch right-back Frimpong is also admired at Anfield, and his bargain release clause of just £34m means he has plenty of clubs looking at him, with Manchester United also expected to be in the race for his signature.
LFC have Trent Alexander-Arnold in the final year of his contract, so might need to bring in someone like Frimpong as a replacement if the England international leaves, with Real Madrid understood to be monitoring his situation closely.
Frimpong could also do an important job at Man Utd, however, after they sold Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer, with some question marks remaining over Diogo Dalot, though with Erik ten Hag’s side still in something of a transitional period, Liverpool might be the more tempting option for Frimpong if he really wants to further his career.
Finally, the Merseyside giants also like Palacios, who is also being considered by Chelsea and Arsenal, though Leverkusen’s €60m asking price could be an issue for suitors, who have some concerns over his injury record.
