It’s the final day of the transfer window and Adrien Rabiot is still looking for a club to join for the 2024/25 season and beyond.
The French international left Juventus and may have thought that he would have suitors queueing up at his door, but that hasn’t been the case for the 29-year-old.
Rabiot won’t be a Barca player in this window
It isn’t clear why that precise situation has occurred given Rabiot’s obvious talent, and rumours of a Barcelona move were quickly shot down by transfer expert and CaughtOffside columnist, Fabrizio Romano.
“Let me say this about the rumours placing Adrien Rabiot at Barca guys…” he told CaughtOffside for his exclusive Daily Briefing.
“Barca had problems with La Liga when trying to sign Bajcetic on loan, and Rabiot’s salary is probably x4 compared to Bajcetic…
“It’s difficult to imagine this deal happening for that reason.
“It’s all quiet at Barca at the moment because of La Liga and Financial Fair Play, and as for Rabiot, he is still waiting for an opportunity. He remains available.”
From Barcelona’s perspective, they need someone to cover in central midfield after the knee injury sustained by Marc Bernal in their recent fixture at Rayo Vallecano, however, unless they’re able to sell a player or two during deadline day, there’s little chance of them landing Rabiot or anyone else.
Being a free transfer, Rabiot can sign for a club outside of the transfer window, but he’ll not want to leave it too long before agreeing a deal somewhere as not only is his fitness likely to suffer, but his place in the French national team could also be at risk.
