Four league goals between them – Ruben Amorim must deal with these Man United flops as a priority

Manchester United have had an awful start to the season, and it’s clear that Ruben Amorim will have a difficult job on his hands if he completes his move to replace Erik ten Hag.

Amorim is expected to be named Man United manager imminently, and he’s done hugely impressive work at Sporting Lisbon in recent times, so fans will be hopeful about better times ahead at Old Trafford.

Still, it’s a difficult challenge awaiting him at United and one clear issue he needs to sort out as soon as possible is his struggling, wasteful and unconfident attacking players.

The stats show that four important players who should be providing goals for United have just four in the Premier League between them so far this season.

Manchester United’s misfiring goal-scorers will be a concern for Ruben Amorim

Alejandro Garnacho, who missed some big chances in the defeat to West Ham at the weekend, has just two goals so far, while Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have only one each, and Bruno Fernandes has zero.

This is far from good enough for four players of real quality, with Garnacho perhaps particularly frustrating as he’s shown so much quality during his time in the senior MUFC side, but still remains someone who wastes big opportunities.

The Argentine could probably have scored twice in the first half against West Ham, and we definitely haven’t seen enough from Hojlund and Zirkzee so far either.

Fernandes is understood to be excited about Amorim taking over, so fans will also hope this can spark a big improvement from him.

The Portuguese midfielder is usually a pretty reliable figure for goals from midfield, but he’s somewhat surprisingly yet to get off the mark at all in the Premier League this season.

If Fernandes can get back to form, that should help the whole United team, so Amorim surely needs to prioritise getting these four players clicking as soon as possible.
