The very first rainbow flag was flown on June twenty fifth, 1978, for the Francisco Gay Freedom Working day parade.
It wasn’t until 1994, that the flag was recognized as the image for LGBTQ delight.
It goes back to 1978, when the artist Gilbert Baker, an openly gay man and a drag queen, designed the very first rainbow flag. Baker afterwards revealed that he was urged by Harvey Milk, one of the very first openly gay elected officials in the U.S., to create a image of pride for the gay local community. Baker determined to make that image a flag since he observed flags as the most potent symbol of pride.
